The AS "Val" is the part of the same family of weapons as the VSS Vintorez. Where as the Vintorez is the "Sniper" or Marksman rifle, the AS Val is the "Special Automatic Rifle" with select fire and suppressor. Further to this the SR3M "Vikhr" or "Whirlwind could be likened to being the sub machine gun or assualt rifle version. All 3 rifles in the family are chambered in the special Russian 9mmx39 catridge, whihc has excellent sub sonic characteristics, but as it is double the weight of 9mmx19 parabellum, it retains a massive amount of hitting power
